New NFL Stadium for the Atlanta Falcons Has Audacious Roof Design

There’s no doubt that professional sports stadiums and arenas have evolved. And as the stadiums get better and better, it makes others want to push the envelope even more.

Consider the new stadium that will house the Atlanta Falcons. The new stadium will have a retractable roof that retracts in eight pieces. When it’s open, the top of the stadium looks like a pinwheel.

The overall design will produce a 1.8 million square-foot facility, with a 105,000-square-foot opening directly over the field. Total costs of the new facility are estimated to be $1.2 billion.

The design team, 360 Architecture, which is based out of Kansas City MO, wanted to reimagine the game-day experience could be like, as well as reject current thinking in the realm of architecture and stadium design.

From the looks of things, it appears they’ve scored a touchdown...
